Attention Builders - HELP!! (or anyone else who knows)

We are currently having a kitchen/garage extension built. Because the floor level is approx. 2' below our neighbours, the Building Inspector has said that we have to install some tanking. Consequently we need to use tanking membrane and my builder has been recommended Visqueen Torch-On tanking membrane. The only snag is that this is £75/roll plus £50 for the primer. We need 40m.
He has asked if I want to try and find a different product that does the same thing but that may be cheaper. The product has to be capable of being built upon vertically, i.e. it has to be laid along the sub-floor, go up over the blockwork, down the cavity and back up and then the new external block work and brick work to be built on top. Does anyone know of any suitable product?
Thanks guys

how much is on the roll for 75 quid?
i do know that tanking is not cheap. a mate has a cottage next to a river and his cellar had to be tanked. the cost was alarming, and it didnt even work! a few yrs later it all started again.Get some gorm.0 -
Ooh er! - sounds a bit worrying
The rolls are 8m x 1m - we need five. Not a vast amount of money I know, but any savings that I can make will help.0 -
aye, sorry cant be more help. my knowledge of tanking is limited.
i do know that visqueen is a great product, very tough. ive used it many times on simple bases/foundations.
it does seem that the secret is in the application/operational skill of the installer and not any fault of the product?
there are specialist companies doing this work, but the usual warnings apply!!!Get some gorm.0
