Stocking up on goods

I have got this thing in my head that I want to start stocking up on things.. When I see things on offer ie.. face wash, deodorant, toilet paper etc.. I have got this daft thing in my head saying I want 12 months supply of things (so when we do our food budget for the month nothing will come out of it like cleaning stuff etc which ends up uping the food bill). Does anyone have this idea? or am I just silly and buy things when need them. lol
I have got part time job which is a few hours a week, so would like my wage to go out and "stock" up as well as start paying off my personal credit card.

I don't think this is silly at all providing these are things you normally use and not just 'bargains you can't resist'.
After all, prices are going up, not down.
I aim for about 6 months worth. I have saved shed loads of money through this practice. For example I stocked up on ground coffee before my favourite brand went up by 50%!
Plus I just bought 10 kilos of snow flakes off the net for a fraction of the supermarket price (that's if you can find them even).
Once you are stocked with basics, you don't have to buy at the full price just because you have run out. You can wait till you see items on offer. I do this with butter even (not many people realise you can freeze butter). Can't remember when I last paid full price.:T0 -
It's a good idea for things that keep going up in price and that you know you buy regularly.
If we see something that will keep and it's a really good price, then we will stock up. This includes freezer stuff.
You just need room to keep everything.
I wouldn't overdo it and buy several years worth like some of the people on the US coupon program.0 -
You can't have too many bog rolls, you never know when Montezumer will strikeYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

Stocking up also works well for picking up good value items at stores you don't visit that frequently.
I find HomeBargains quite good for certain items but don't want to have to go in every week to pick-up a handful of items, the extra time negates the saving, easier to buy 3 or 4 months worth and put it in the cupboard.0 -
I stock up have done for 15+ years. If I see a deals and I need it and it keeps I buy several. I have 5 shelves in garage full of goods this includes tins, pasta, tolietres, bottles and toilet rolls. I have cut down this past few months as there is now only 3 of us0

unless you are on a 0% credit card I'd be inclined to clear that before stocking up on bog rolls0

I stock up on things I know I will use and will keep, this has saved me a small fortune over the years, i.e. I only buy coffee, cheese, baked beans , tomatoes and cleaning stuff when on offer .Slimming World at target0

lol I'm glad I'm not the only one! We have a £1 shop and home bargains too so always going in there and aldi is great too. I have just planned out our monthly food menus today and so happy to see that we don't need that much as have things in the freezer and a little stock of things. We TRY and stick to £100 a month on food (2 of us and a dog) we like cooking fresh things and not frozen meals.
Having a shelve in the garage is a great idea to put things, I just need to convince my partner as he thought I was made saying we can put things in the loft! lol
I have been getting lots of freebies in the post too (have lots of tooth paste to last a year!) haha all for free, plus we would like to have kids next year (as getting on now.. 31 this year ) so collecting freebies baby stuff and good ole freecycle has saved us loads and have a bin bag full of baby stuff! lol I think my partner thinks I'm crazy half the time, but he doesn't complain!0 -
sorry for being nosey but does you dog like dried dog food?
we have a farm shop locally, bags of 15kg for £7.99 a bag, sister mixes it with the dog food from Lidls which is 99p a tin. also the best place to get back of spuds from if they grow there own, ours does a 25kg for £4.99 or a 12.5kg for £3.50 i think.
as for toilet rolls dont go overboard like me, i bought the cushelle 24packs when they where on offer for £6.99 in lidl instead of £9.99, i wont be needing any toilet rolls for a few months, bought 27packets.
Pg tips i normally by in iceland when its £3.50 a box of 240, got about 20boxes, waiting on morrisons or tesco's to do their £2.42 a box
digestive i wait on lidl they are usually 69p instead of £1.10,
currently trying aldi washing power / tablets, bought a box of both today.
I bought some ariel in tesco's whilst it was on offer but thats for my sisters, my mum prefers daz, we also tried the wash balls that aldi's did on offer somethink like 900washes for £5. they where ok, balls didnt last though, started to crack after 2 years.0 -
Storing stuff in the loft can be a bad idea as it can get tremendously hot up there and could damage many things - an exploding shower gel bottle could make a big mess for example.
Always had shelfs in the garage, as mentioned HomeBargains are not consistent enough to shop regularly but for example my regular deodorant stick is always £1.60 - £1.80 everywhere but recently Home Bargains had it at something like £1.29 so I cleared their shelf!
I buy the giant Lidl soap powder boxes and tip a bit at a time into a smaller tub.
The big incentive for me is we hate shopping! a few fresh things picked up during the week, a fortnightly food shop at Lidl & Aldi which takes about an hour for both, very close! everything else is stocked up for months.0
