Phonecall & letter from Ombudsman - bank charges will now never be paid!

:(

Has anyone else had this response from the Ombudsman?

I can't really understand that if this is indeed the case why there are so many threads with people claiming they are still receiving bank charge refunds? The Ombudsman told me that we've all been wrongly informed and that as a result of the test case high court ruling, these charges will not be refunded?

I have had a phone call from the Ombudsman and also a letter & email backing up the phone call stating exactly what it says on the tin......no money will be refunded.

Very disappointed as I received £1,700 in the past for the exact same thing :(

......and you didn't learn your lesson from last time?

Actually I did - these are much lower valued bank charges from a different bank, but from the same time period that I never thought to claim at the time. I only tried to reclaim them last year when I noticed that others were advising they were still being successful.

There is no need to make assumptions that I have not learned anything! I've learned plenty thanks

I was merely posting this on here to advise others that if they are trying to claim it is pretty much a waste of their time rather than waiting for 6-12 months on the Ombudsman replying to them. :(

They are not. The bank charges forum is virtually dead. Nowadays only hardship and goodwill payments (typically first time mistakes) get refunds.

They also state it on their website.

You got lucky. Maybe the person refunded in error. Maybe they had a backlog and had a floor limit in effect (as many banks do) and auto payout on complaints below a certain amount. Maybe the person there felt sorry for you.

Banks are always a bit scattergun in their complaint handling.

I don't think so :p, it was won with the help of the Ombudsman, but it was a couple of years ago, just prior to the high court ruling.

The only reason I applied again for the charges from the other bank was as I had seen posts on here from people stating they were still being successful so I thought why not give it a try - nothing ventured, and in my case this time, nothing gained ;)

I have never been successful in winning anything without involving the Ombudsman of any organisation (Financial, Energy etc), however, I do have nothing but praise for the staff of the Ombudsmans who are extremely busy but always take the time to keep you up to date with proceedings in your case.
