GAME / Gamestation in Administration

well, we all saw it coming, Game have gone into administration as of today.

They entered voluntarily, meaning they get a 10-day rest-bite from 'official' administration, and it's hoped a buyer can be found in that time, but they're effectively bust, and their shares have been suspended.

If you still have gift cards / points etc - would strongly suggest you go and spend them NOW before staff are (probably) told to stop accepting them.

Their website is still trading, but again, would advise against ordering online, unless it's your only way of spending points/gift cards!

Thought I had used up all my points, but just went and checked and had £3.80 showing.

Purchased 400 Microsoft points for £3.50 with instant email delivery.

Its worth double checking to make sure you have used up all your points before its too late! Would then recommend ordering items with instant download/email delivery.

Just nipped in and scrambled all my personal details - who knows what will happen to customer data once they go down the tubes!

Fail... You reckon they only have one copy! I suspect your efforts will not do much good but I also would have trust that the old data is destroyed if they go joysticks up.

This was inevitable as any of the companies wanting to take over want to get the business on the cheap or buy part of teh business. Id like to see GAME and Gamestation be split up rather than be part of the same company to provide some competition.

I popped in this weekend, been expecting the news for a while. Picked up 6 games for £35, all ones I've been wanting for a while.

I'd like to say I'm sad to see them go as I've been shopping there since I was 5 years old, but the last few years the staff have been getting ruder, the stock selection worse, and the prices higher. They blame online retailers, but for me, it just wasn't a nice experience to shop there anymore, so I stopped.

I've been getting things from Grainger Games lately, the prices are reasonable, and the staff are friendly and will do their best to get you the best deal, they quoted me £304 for a console bundle that Gamestation wanted almost £450 for.

Lets not forget that they haven't gone anywhere yet, and may (and hopefully, for the staff mostly!) no go anywhere, as they may be able to sell the business - I think there are a couple of US companies showing an interest.

Administration doesn't automatically meaning going out of business/closing all stores - it's a mechanism to allow a company to continue to trade whilst sorting out their finances / finding a long term solution (which may then load to winding down of the business / liquidation).

I heard they were sacrificing Gamestation in order to save GAME, which sounds likely, so I think we'll see at least one of the two shops go.

Quite possibly. But I would have thought they'd pick the better performing stores from across the estate, and then perhaps re-brand them to maybe Game if there aren't enough to keep both brands going
