mobile phone operator has increased monthly tariff mid contract

I agreed a new 24 month contract with my existing mobile phone provider last summer at a lower tariff.
A new handset was supplied and my 1st months bill was at the agreed price. I then started getting randomly charged for SMS delivery receipts on some but not all of my text messages. I then started paying extra for voicemail retrieval when this had previously been included in my inclusive bundle.

I have now been informed the monthly tarriff has gone up mid contract. Although the price hike is not that big I'm typically paying £5 - £6 per month more than I thought I would be without ever going over my text/talk/data allowances. Has anyone else experienced this scenario or anything similar ?
Any thoughts would be appreciated, personally I'd be happy to send the handset back, port my number and take my custom elsewhere, but I doubt I could do this without incurring penalties with 16 months left on my current contract.

    Why has it gone up?

Normally when they increase the price of the standard tarrif, you can finish the contract, pay nothing more, and keep the phone, with no termination fees.

For this reason it virtually NEVER happens!

    not sure why jakg.

I received a text from orange a few weeks ago notifying me the tariff was going up and for more info to visit their website.

good advice wealdroam, unfortunately I'd already tried that and i'm none the wiser. I trawled through the help & support and the terms and conditions on the orange website.

Did anyone else on a orange monthly pay plan have their tariff go up in February ? Perhaps they could enlighten me.

    Call them and ask?

Just to rule out all possibilities, are you sure you didnt sign up to a deal which was x for x months then increased for the remainder of the contract?

Unfortunately none of us have your account or tariff details to hand so I'm afraid unless anyone is in the same position, the only people who can answer your query is Orange themselves.

However once you find out why its increased, do come back and let us know and if we can help, we will :) Good luck

Read your contract to see if they have the right to do this, then call and ASK them why they did it!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

T-Mo added an extra couple of quid a month to my bill too, somewhat annoyed. They wrote me a nice letter saying they would be helping themselves to more money and that I had said they were allowed to when I signed up for the contract. Bit one-sided if you ask me, they can squeeze me, but not the other way round.

I can't see any way this won't lose them customers - it's not the amount, it's the fact they did it right across the board, not even just dealing with people as their contracts came up. Shame, I quiteliked T-Mo, now Three is looking more like it may get me when my contract is up in a few months. If T-Mo had simply waited then put me on a new tariff when I renewed, I would have found that fine, this is just cr4ppy.
