JSA Holiday allowance from signing on?

Is there a holiday allowance from signing on JSA? We have the chance of going in a caravan for 4 days. I believe some of the rules change depending on how long you have been on JSA but it's all a mine field to me.

Yes it is just a four day mini break in the Lakes, which is an hour's drive away.

If you're away on your signing on day then you will obviously need to tell the JC.

Yes I will be. But am I allowed a holiday entitlement while on JSA? When you work you get 4 weeks a year and I wondered if it is similar with JSA. It may seem a silly question but I am totally new to the benefits system after being one of the fortunate people who has always been in work.

No such thing as a holiday entitlement,

You can take as much holiday as you want, its just that you wont get paid for it.

do you mean a time that you dont need to be looking for work and still get paid, then no..........
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Very little know fact that you can claim JSA whilst abroad and looking for work. Do not expect your average clerk to be familiar with the legislation though.

I did that a few years ago. I went with friends in a caravan in South Wales for a week and as I told them that I wouldn't be able to look for work there - I live in the North West, they stopped my benefit and had to do a rapid reclaim. It took 6 weeks after I came back before I got my money, minus the one week.

I learned my lesson and didn't go away again after that, I couldn't afford to lose my money.

OMG thank you so much for that information.

This is true, for 3 Months anyway. I know people who have done it living in Spain:

    Contribution-based JSA

You cannot usually get contribution-based JSA outside the EEA. However, you may be able to get contribution-based JSA in the EEA for up to three months if you:
    • are entitled to contribution-based JSA on the day you go abroad
    • have registered as a jobseeker for at least four weeks before you leave
    • are available for work and actively seeking work in Great Britain up to the day you leave
    • are going abroad to look for work
    • register for work at the equivalent of a Jobcentre in the country you are going to
    • comply with the other country's rules on registering and looking for work

OP, there's no 'holiday' entitlement, but you can go away from home and continue to be entitled to JSA providing you continue to meet availability conditions
