Honey overflowing jar

I hope it is OK to post this on here. I bought a jar of local honey a couple of months ago and it has been sitting in the larder. I noticed a sticky patch and checked the jar which had not been opened. The honey seemed to be coming from the lid and when I opened it, the lid is full of honey which literally seems to have bubbled up in the jar. I have tried the honey and it tastes lovely but is this bubbling up normal and is it safe to eat? Grateful for any help. Thank you.

I went on a couple of bee sites and it seems as if it is a natural fermentation due to naturally occurring yeasts. I think it is safe to eat, but trying to get more info.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
