Divorce certificates

I've just stumbled across my divorce certificate whilst i was looking for my birth certificate and was tempted to chuck it. Its 20 years old and i cant really see the need to keep it any longer, although i have since remarried. I am pretty certain i am aint a bigamist, and my ex has since remarried (twice), so he cant be a bigamist either. If you have been divorced, how long have you kept yours?

I would think you need to keep it, forever. I had problems recently when I went for a job. I had to present ALL my educational certificates, utility bill and photo id. My birth name is on the certificates, up until I got married to first ex, than name no. 2, then I got divorced and name no. 3 appears on any docs after 1999. Im sure they didn't believe I was who I said I was, despite having my passport to look at! If I had presented them with my divorce certificate this would have been less of a problem.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

You need to keep it forever, with birth certificate & curent passport. Just as one example, if you have changed your name as a result of the divorce the passport office may ask for it at ANY renewal & I believe you have to present it each time you re-marry.

I know what you mean, but its awful when someone doubts your identiy:(I have a friend whose birth cert and passport are different because of being adopted. She has no end of problems.
I think we should make use of our old style craft skills and make fancy picture frames for our certificates - display them with pride;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Sarahsaver, I was issued a new birth certificate when I was adopted, with my new name on it. It says it's a copy because of adoption, but it would have been my only birth certificate until I was 18.0

My OH did this when his decree absolute came through in January. It is now in a frame with pride of place on our livingroom wall! I don't mind, cos as he says it proves that he is now a free man
