I want a new kitchen and bathroom, only problem is they are the original kitchen and bathroom!
the house we are in at the mo is ex council, we wouldnt make a huge profit on the house if we bought an expensive kitchen/bathroom- even though we are due to stay here for a few years.
the bathroom is tiny, so should nt cost a fortune i hope- although my bath is only 1650mm and we want a steel bath- i know not asking much!!
my kitchen measures at 3390 by3135 so not tiny- but again everything is original from the 60s can imagine everything will have to be ripped out!
problem is we cant afford to pay a builder - me and my brother in law would have to fit it ourselves- although never done before.
could anyone offer advie on the cheapest way of getting around this, and what i would expect to pay for a builder/plumber if we had to. and for the kitchen/bathroom itself.
i have been looking but seems so expensive.
thankyou!!

really need more info, ie where do you live?.
do you want wall tiles and flooring to be included? lighting? what appliances?
decorating etc?
but a rough cheap guide on a tight budget will be:
basic bathroom suite from wickes/bq about 200 quid (plastic bath). a shower 100 quid.
kitchen from same sources, about 350 for 8 units.
say 100 for worktops.
50 for a sink.
200-300 for an oven hob.
assume you have fridge etc.?
then say 500 for tiling/paint.
all these you can diy.
local builder prob charge say 500 to fit a kichen.
200 to fit a bath suite.
so 1500ish diy or 2200 to get a man in. add more labour rate for the south east!
of course youll need to add extras for fixings/cable/sockets etc.. all minor but they do add up.Get some gorm.0 -
Thankyou for that has given me a rough idea! i live in northamptonshire so can imagine labour shouldnt be top end. my brother in law can tile- and lay flooring so dont really have to worry too much about that hopefully!! ill pop over to wickes later on today, get a few ideas. have all the plans so shouldnt be too difficult. fingers crossed!!
great advice thankyou for that!!Mummy to 2 gorgeous boysEdward 4 on xmas day and baby Benjamin born 28/12/09 weighing a whopping 9lb14oz!!0 -
just remembered.
i did my kitchen floor last yr, tiles from BQ at bank holiday sale. the whole job cost approx 150 quid. floor tiles were a 100 quid and i needed special flexible adhesive for a wooden floor. that was fairly expensive.
my bathroom floor cost peanuts, as its very small.
hope this helps you.Get some gorm.0
