I have a BiG problem with A&L. I have accrued £3000 debt on my A&L credit card with 15.9% interest. I tried to transfer this debt to another existing credit card with 0% interest. A&L refused! They cited some well hidden clause in the customer agreement which apparently states that I cannot transfer the balance to ANY credit card. I've read and reread my customer agreement but can't find this clause. Is this true? Can credit companies do this? How can I get out of it if possible, apart from paying off this debt ASAP?

why not ask them where in the agreement it states this.
i have heard you cannot transfer balances from one mbna card to another as well as other bank but not heard of no transfers to any account0 -
Sorry I am not sure but why don't you get them to send you copy in the post so you can get it checked out but Citizens Advice? If it is there then they must be able to provide a copy.0

Who is the other 0% credit card with? Maybe it's also backed by A&L, in which case they may not allow it.
If not an A&L backed card, I cannot understand how they can stop you. Hope you don't mind me asking, have you got into difficulties with the A&L card, or accepted an arrangement to clear the payments or something? That can change the t&cs of the first card but I still cannot see why they won't accept it being cleared in full.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Why are you talking to A&L about this transfer, you need to talk to the other card company who will pay your A&L card off?
As others have stated, only if both cards are issued/ run by A&L should you have a problem.

Exactly what I was going to say, methinks your talking to wrong company which is probably why they are telling you that you cant do it.
You need to call other CC Company to do the BT, A&L will just see it as a payment, they wont know where its come from, no possible way they can refuse it, unless as has been said, the other card in question is an MBNA run card0 -
Agree with the last 2 posts, I didn't realise when I posted at first here that you seem to have approached the wrong credit card supplier.
Also just noticed that your heading says 'A&L refuse to transfer credit balance'. It's not a credit balance but...I was just thinking it may be a misunderstanding...if you phoned tham and asked hypothetically if you could 'transfer a credit balance' to a credit card (without them looking at your account) it's quite possible their t&cs wouldn't allow that.
What you have is a debit balance, as do most of us on here!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

My husband tried to do a balance transfer to Barclaycard and although he had more than enough credit to transfer over,A&L have refused to allow him to transfer his balance to another card. This happened only this morning.0

Never heard of a card refusing to allow a transfer from it.. new tactic??
However one solution may be to ask if the low apr card(barclaycard for MRSTITTLEMOUSE, 0% un-named card for pickledTOO) will issue a cheque at balance transfer rate(not cash advance!), pay yourself the amount then pay the A&L card off with this??0 -

Did he ring Barclaycard though, or A&L? If A&L isn't he ringing the wrong one?
Edit, Snap! You beat me to it, you are no 'slow-hand' are you Clapton?PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
