Forgot to put slow cooker on, shall I use high heat for 6 hours?

1.2K Posts
Aaargh, opened the fridge 30mins ago to get lunch and saw the beef I was meant to be putting in the slow cooker this morning. I've now put everything (beef, potatoes, carrots, onion, celery & pearl barley) in the SC. We've got about 6 hours until I'd like to eat - so should I put it on 'high' rather than 'low'? I usually cook on low for about 8-9 hours...

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...
Have left it on high and will put it down to low for the last couple of hours if it's looking good.
