Acer 531H Laptop - Slow even after reformat

^^^ in what way was it useless ?? What was it's commit charge and how many processes did you have running at idle ??? XP can be running with around 16 processes at idle, with a commit charge of 130-ish meg...so with 512 RAM it should go ok...
Can't tell you now, as I've been running it with 1.5GB RAM for some time now.
But it was boring waiting for it to startup. If the antivirus was running; another wait to get things done.
My commit charge is around 917MB without any tweaking, so the current configuration is fine for me.0 -

So far, we've dragged all the stuff off the netbook again for another reformat. Going to try Avast instead of AVG for the first time. Were going to stay with Rapport as we have £2375 reasons why we should keep it active.
Here is a couple of screen shots before, as you were asking.
1) Windows XP Loaded, not alot going on in the background. Just sat at the desktop.
2) Internet Explorer demanded, and loading..
It's really annoying, take 20-30 secs for IE to load, then another 20-30 secs to find Google. From there if another tab is opened it takes a bit of time. Mrs AO has complained about it locking up twice today, sometimes it even locks up completely with the Caps lock button not even working. You can turn the wireless off, which it gives the indication but the clock time/screen freezes until its forced to turn off & restarted.

No doubt you will receive some suggestions to run another browser, however if we look at IE, may I suggest that even though you have just installed it, that you reset it. All youi need to do is (control panel\internet options) click on the advanced tab, and click on reset.
On another note I see that you are running 43 processes. Do you need all these? Suggest you review my prevuious comments on your post, and see what you really could eliminate, or avoid automatically starting when the netbook boots.0 -

Just reformatted, and in the process of installing everything on it again. Im using it now, its pretty fast again but thats with XP reloaded, and the stuff that Acer install on it removed (Aka Office 2007 Trial, Works, McAfree etc).0 -
FSA rules
Your bank must only refuse a refund for an unauthorised transaction if:- it can prove you authorised the transaction – though your bank cannot simply say that use of your password, card and PIN conclusively proves you authorised a payment; or
- it can prove you are at fault because you acted fraudulently or, because you deliberately, or with gross negligence, failed to protect the details of your card, PIN or password in a way that allowed the transaction.

We were a victim of a website redirection through a modified .hosts file. The full bank details were entered as the website failed each time, so they eventually got all the characters. This was back before the card readers were brought out.
What happened was that over £2,000 was transferred online from our account, which the bank could not do anything about it. From there we had to go with the police, crime reference number then eventually we were refunded by the bank.
Whose fault was it? Purely ours.
So we hope that Rapport in the future will prevent any access to a banking website that did not have the right certificate/address etc. Back before we were scammed, we did not bother checking the https address, or the padlock.0 -
46 processes! I get twitchy when I see XP with 30, generally I like to see around 25 max, for an average user, not the GunJacks and closeds of this world.
Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Rapport is itself a keylogger...No free lunch, and no free laptop

very true, and how much of that is being sent to the Okie Island Trading Co. ???? Hardly a renowned and respected internet security house...........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
