Really confused about tax paid this year

I had two different jobs at the beginning of the tax year that were temporary and I did not receive any payslips so cannot remember if I paid tax or not (pretty sure I did) is the inland revenue likely to know how much I paid as I'm sure it was on an emergency tax code?
I'm also looking at my current payslip which is on 747L M1 code and on 10489.75 I have paid £1225.00 tax and 945.34 national insurance. I have had 8 months of pay. Have I over paid tax or will it even out by the end of the tax year?

Did you not get P45s when you left your temporary jobs? If not, ask for them now, that will tell you how much you earned and how much tax you paid at each of them. HMRC should know how much tax you paid (assuming the employers handed it over) but I don't know how easy it is to get them to tell you.
I'm going to assume in your current job that you have had 8 months pay and that you have 2 more months to come this tax year, and that your pay is roughly the same each month. If so then your total salary for 10 months is £13111. On that basis (and ignoring whatever came from the temporary jobs) you would pay £1127 tax and £706 NI. With 2 months to go I'd say what you have paid is probably too much (especially the NI, which seems to be way too much). It would help if you can get the figures from the 2 jobs, but I would say you have overpaid and you may have to complete a tax return to get it straightened out.0 -
Thank you, I didn't even question the national insurance so I shall look into it and make sure I haven't paid too much, I'm also going to write to the tax office after the tax year and make sure I have paid enough on the previous jobs and that I haven't paid too much on my current!0

The code you are on currently is an emergency tax code, if no P45s were issued for these earlier jobs then the tax office cannot take you off this code as they will not know the details untill returns are made after the tax year end. One possibililty is that you may have completed a student tax declaration P38(S) form which would mean that no tax was deducted, is this possible?
The tax figure that you show suggests that 7 payments were made to you but the NI figure does not fit with this. Are you sure you are quoting the employee's NI not the employer's? To check the NI properly can you advise month by month the gross tax and NI from your payslips?
As to the tax office sorting out your tax this will not happen untill they have full details of all earnings and tax paid for the year.
Edit. Just noticed how long you have been a member so guess you are no longer a student so P38(S) not likely to apply. So would suggest checking with old employer to confirm they have sent P45 details to tax office then contacting tax office to see if they are yet in a position to issue cumulative tax code.0
