Need to fit a fireplace - any recommendations?

Dear Moneysavers, we recently bought a lovely old fireplace off ebay with the intention of fitting it in our lounge, but we are having real trouble finding anyone who will come and fit it. We need a new hearth and fireback too as they were crumbling away. Can anybody recommend reliable people to help us with this? ( We are in Redhill area of Surrey). Many thanks, hope you can help...... Jandy

  • I live in scotland or i would have sent my husband to fit it for you as he has fitted 2 in our house .He says all you need is a good time severed bricklayer .If you are good at diy it is simple to do if you have the confidence .you will need baby bricks ,fire cement and a bag of vermiculite you mix this with pure cement and pack it at the rear of the baby bricks

we had a similar problem, and have decided to leave it for a while as we couldnt find anyone, yes, if you buy a fireplace from a company they will recommend someone, or supply thier own fitter, but you try and find one on your own, its a nightmare.

We are leaving it for a while, but I came across a site that offers you a list of tradesmen, its of no cost to you, you just register and put in your details, and the 'job' will be offered to tradesmen from near or around your areas who could be suitable for the job.
There is also like a feedback system from customers who have used them, but obviously some havent as yet.

They are called 'Rated tradesmen' I dont know the link, I will try and find it for you, but if you google the name, I'm sure it will come up.:D

We have just had a new fireplace fitted it has taken us a long time to get it sorted, we found a good stone mason eventually, we did save money by doing it this way but it was alot of hassle not sure I would do it again !!

We bought our fireplace on ebay from naturalstone fireplaces , we are delighted with it.
