Vodafone (Loyalty) Vs Orange (Service)

Hi,

Wondering if someone can help. I have been with Vodafone for 12 years. Now we have relocated to a new area, Vodafone mobile reception is non-existent most of the local area.

I have 2 mobiles on 2 contract tariffs under 1 account with Vodafone. I have heard from a colleague at work that with Orange it is possible to have one monthly tariff shared across up to 3 handsets although I forgot to ask whether all 3 have the same mobile number.

I am thinking of this as an option as DH uses his mobile a lot whilst working in the South East whereas I don't tend to so much but would like to continue being able to access the internet via mobile. Would this be cheaper than both of us going on Orange PAYG?

You won't share a number but that only tends to be with business plans. If you need Vodafone coverage at your house you could get a Vodafone Sure Signal
  • Thanks for your reply, not heard of Vodafone Sure Signal.
Do you know what it is and how it works or point me in the right direction?

It's a femtocell. Its essentially a mini Vodafone mast you put in your own house. You just plug it into a router and it uses your interne to to broadcast the Vodafone signal. http://www.vodafone.co.uk/personal/price-plans/network-and-coverage/sure-signal/index.htm It does cost £50 but if you call Vodafone you can probably get them to give you one for free.

Firstly, I think Sure Signal is not a good solution if "Vodafone mobile reception is non-existent most of the local area", not just at home.

It's impossible to say without knowing how much is "a lot" and how much internet you use. However, I don't think personal users can share allowance at any network.
And I wouldn't exclude other networks from consideration.
  • I am unsure of how much would constitue 'a lot' of internet browsing. I may go to ebay mobile once a week if I am bidding on something, emails once a fortnight and once or twice a week using google maps. Unsure how much MB this would amount to and don't want to be stung by finding out at the end of the month I have exceeded my allowance. How much is 100MB of internet usage?

At the moment with a limited reception, I seem to do a lot more texting as it only requires a one bar signal : (

    How about checking your bills?

    How much data?
  • Thanks for the link Grumbler, it was great. I think 1GB is sufficient for me and DH as we would connect to Wi-fi. Many thanks

Looked at the Orange tariffs (PAYG/Contract), not that impressed nor with Vodafone. Had a look at the Orange retention thread and saw Tesco Mobile is offering some customers 1500 minutes, 500 texts and 1GB of data on a SIM-only 12 month contract. Subject to coverage, thinking of giving this a go as the minimum contract term with Vodafone is now 18 months and don't really want to be stuck in a contract if the situation doesn't improve. I found Vodafone's live webchat dismal to say the least, Tesco Mobile was much more informative. We have worked out to be paying £75-90 p/m (with VAT) to Vodafone on 2 contracts for nothing last 2 months, Tesco Mobile certainly sounds cheaper.

Is anyone with Tesco Mobile? Is the customer service any different when changing from a new customer to an existing customer?

Do not sign for TESCO until you have tried it out for yourself. Get a £10 sim and try it first. They run off O2 and unless you have proof of that working locally, you could end up in the same boat.

No good being the cheapest if you can't use it.
  • Our expired contracts with Vodafone were:

    Contract 1:
    700 minutes (Anytime)
    250 free texts
    Free Video Calling & Internet
    Free Web browsing
    Line rental £29.79

    Contract 2:
    250 minutes (Anytime)
    100 free texts
    Free Video Calling
    Stop the Clock
    Line rental £25.53

Our average bill hovers between £76 > £90 p/m which I can't understand when I hardly use my mobile and continuously roll over minutes each month. We'll be saving so much by switching to Tesco Mobile, may be able to put the money towards a late summer holiday deal :j Thank you everyone :j
