Cannot logon to home wifi network with laptop since router changed

Our son came home at Christmas and insisted on upgrading our old Belkin router for a newer faster model (Netgear) he said.

This did not affect logging on to wifi with my netbook or OH's laptop. However today I tried to connect to the home wifi using our second best laptop (not used since last November) and could not connect.

On the list of available networks, our home wifi (only) has a red cross next to it and the message "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network."

I was not aware the home network settings were saved - we used it regularly everywhere we went and it just logged on to the local wifi, finding a router dynamically.

However I assumed the message meant the settings had to be changed to match the new router - so I pulled up the tab for our home wifi on the acer and changed its properties to match those on our other laptops for new router (ie Security to WPA2- Enterprise and Encryption
type to AES.)

But it will still not connect and gives same error message. Any suggestions?

Change the security to WEP -all three machines should connect

That didn't work - WEP is only available as an Encryption option with Security as 802.1x. I tried that but no change.

So started clicking on the various security options and this time when I clicked on Security WPA2- Enterprise and Encryption AES (same as Netbook) it also prompted me for the network password, which I re-entered.

    Problem solved.

open up your wireless settings, delete all record of your home network from the problematic machine and start from scratch, re-entering the password.

WEP is onnly a very small step up from no security so keep regular checks for all your neighbours/passers by using your network if you choose to drop your security in this way.
