Hi,
My daughter is 19 and lives in her own flat in a supported living block of flats.
She was on ESA but following a medical it has just been stopped.
Her support worker is currently appealing on her behalf but I do not think it will be given back to her.
She is studying full time. She gets lower rate care and lower rate mobility DLA.
She gets housing benefit so her rent & council tax is covered.
Her DLA will not cover the rest of her bills. She only has TV licence, gas, Elec & food to pay but it's not going to cover it.
She would love a part time job & will continue to try and get one but it's not going to be easy!
Does anyone know if there are any other options out there for her?

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

Its her first year in mainstream college after spending the last 3 years at a specialist learning college.
She is doing a foundation studies course which includes 'life skills & employment training as well as basic maths and English'
I will look to see if the college provide anything.

Double check if she is entitled to anything else by putting her details into the Turn2us online benefit checker. I don't have enough knowledge to know if she'd be entitled to income support, for example. Her college may have a student support service with someone skilled in benefits.
She can take out a student loan if the level at college is high enough (not sure that it is) and also see if her college has a hardship fund, most do.
Yes, it's very hard to live on £39 a week with a self contained property. Her tv licence will be £3, £20 for food if she knows how to cook fresh stuff from scratch, especially veggie food(not every one can), leaving around £16 max for energy. But even so there's lots of incidental expenses like travel, books, social, etc.0
