How much data?

My current contract is coming to an end soon and I'm considering upgrading my current basic phone to a smart phone.
Having never had one before I have no idea how many MB I'm likely to go through in a month.
Are there any rough guides to how much data it takes to spend say 15 min on facebook?

Use http://www.att.com/standalone/data-calculator/ and it should tell you how much data is used

I'm assuming that depends on things like how many pictures there are? I just need to get an idea whether I need 100MB or 1000.

Did you have a look at http://www.att.com/standalone/data-calculator/ ?
  • Hi :)

Most tariffs include either 500mb or 1Gb

I have 1Gb and I do lots of searching, Facebook, downloads, YouTube, email etc. When I'm at home, I just content to my Wifi.

I have an app (3G Watchdog) so I can keep an eye on my data usage as it is easy to go over

In 2010 MSE homepage was about 0.3Mb. AFAIK, some webpages can take up to 1Mb.

    According to Orange:
1GB is enough to do one of these (approximately):
    • Send 1,000,000 emails (no attachments)
    • Send 2,000 emails with photo attachments
    • Visit 10,000 simple sites (like Twitter)
    • Visit 3,000 rich-content sites (like BBC)
    • Download 100 low-quality songs
    • Download 24 high-quality songs
    • Watch 120 short videos

  • Yes thanks - I reckon 500MB should be fine and will use wifi as much as possible.
    ......
  • Just get a Three phone, all you can eat data from £15 a month (£16 with a free phone) then use as much or a little as you want and no need to be trapped by your wifi access or allowance
