I've just been on the phone to O2 to sign up for another 12 months home phone and broadband and was advised that Line Rental is increasing from £7.50 to £10.50pm in March, and that there may be changes to Broadband and calling package prices as well.
Does anybody else have any details of this, before I switch.

A 40% increase! That'll hit their subscriber numbers.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I can switch from Virgin on Feb 4th and cannot wait but who do I go to? I’ve looked at talk talk, but friend says two people she knows had trouble with them which has put me off. Quite fancy the Yorkshire one or plusnet (are they different companies?), anyone have personal knowledge? I haven’t decided whether to have phone evenings and weekends or anytime and I need broadband. I have free view and that is enough for me, so I don’t want a tv package. I have very slow web because of my address, 1.2 with virgin.0

I'm in a contract currently with 02 for broadband and home phone. They just sent a letter about the price rises. It's going up to £10.50 but if you sign up before March then it will be £9.00 till March 2013. I'm not very impressed that they can still change the price mid contract though....0

Yes, I have something similar in the mail today - my home phone line rental ( and evening and weekend calls) up from £10 to £13 (but they will delay half the increase till March 2013).
A steep 30% increase. In general I find them very good, so doubt if I will switch.0 -
Yes I have now received the letter. The price for Line Rental will be increasing to £10.50pm from your first bill after 1 March 2012. However if you joined before March it will only be £9pm until March 2013.
You can leave if you want to...

Are you on VM cable or Virgin National? If the former, you'll need a BT- based line installing first to get any other ADSL based broadband service. VM is the only cable provider. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Any telcom can increase the price during the minimum term.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I've received the letter too I thought inflation was about 4%?
This increase is 'steep' no other word for it and having to pay a fee on top for 'Caller display' makes BT more competitive than O2..............
I can't fault their broadband though and wouldn't change that, I'm not sure I want the hassle of switching.:(0 -

Although I have decided to stay with O2, (only because of a free broadband offer) my Mum, decided yesterday to switch back to BT for Line Rental. Mainly for the free caller ID and £35 Quidco, but also for the security of knowing that Line Rental is fixed for 12 months and will not increase in price again. She also renewed her broadband with O2 and received another £30 cashback from O2 and twelve months half price broadband.
The process was simple. Just go to BT via Quidco or TCB, and fill in the order form. You do not have to notify O2 if you are just switching your line rental.0 -
You can leave your contract within 30 days of being notified:

It seems they are also removing the line rental only option for new customers.0
