Content Insurance Help!

Hi all,

I am a newbie here and need some help with my content insurance choice.

I have tried to compare quotes from the websites suggested by moneysavingexpert but I get many options that offer too complicated option that are also expensive.

Maybe I am looking into the wrong place!

I am looking to get a basic content insurance that mainly covers for items that are taken outside the house.

We are a couple living in a rented flat (converted) located in a nice area.

We are looking to cover around £10k of value and the core is to cover 2 laptops, 2ipads and 1 mobile plus other valuable electrical goods (cameras, lenses ect)

Can you please point me on the right directions?
I am sure whether I should look at other type of insurances or whether the home insurance is here the best option

Ta!

  • For items outside the house you will need to ensure you take the Personal Possessions cover, laptops are normally covered under this but a few insurers split them out separately.

There arent many places to look, you can check the aggregators like Confused.com and then check those that dont go on the aggregators like DirectLine.

As Inside Insurance said you will need PP cover.

You won't need 10k of cover for PP though, unless you take everything with you at once. The standard is £1500 to £5000 or about that much.

Thanks to both for your reply.

Can I get PP on his own or is this always bundled within Home Insurance products?

I have started to compare with gocompare but it only let me choose laptops option for PP not iPads (but I believe this can classify as laptop) or my IPhone.

    What you think?

I have only dealt with it bundled with a home insurance policy so I have no expertise with it on its own so I won't give you advice on that.

When it is bundled with a HI policy you will get an unspecified limit so you will not need to list every belonging that is worth under a certain limit (usually around £1500).
For anything over that limit you will need to add as a specified item.

Have you looked at Endsleigh? They have worked out cheapest for our daughter lately.
