Santander OD/Loan?

I applied a couple of months ago for an Overdraft with Santander, but was told it wasn't possible, despite at least 2k per month going in the account.
I do have two defaults on my credit file dating back to 2009, one to Orange and one to Nat West. The Nat West was disputed bank charges which is still ongoing (£161), and Orange I have no knowledge about at all (£81). I cannot recollect why I would have a debt to Orange as I ported my number across from them, which back in 2009 they would not let you port unless the account was cleared in full.
I have recently taken out a new contract telephone with no problem at all and this is showing clear on my file, I have no other bad history, CCJ's etc...
What I'm wanting to establish is do you think I would have a chance with a personal loan with Santander? I don't want to risk blemishing my record more by applying and getting knocked back, but I could do with some funds to tide me over short term... Anyone got any ideas?

if you cant get an overdraft with 2k going through the account then absolutely no chance.
I meet Polish immigrants who start off on basic accounts then move up to normal accounts and they are offered overdrafts of 1k even if theyve only been in the uk 18 months if theyve got a good credit turnover
a default on your credit file means game over. you are seen as an excessive risk0
