A mystery Balance in a closed account?

Hiya Everyone.
I am new here and posting this on behalf of my mum.
about 3 years ago she had a Bank Account with Santander. She closed it about 2 years ago. It had no balance, she also had a savings account with them that had a few pence balance.
Today she received a statement from santander with an opening balance of over £100 (for the closed account). We signed into online banking using the old log on details. But the account she closed is no where to be seen, the only thing is the old savings account, still with a few pence left.
Does anybody what this could be about? Or is it likely to just be a mistake on Santanders behalf?
Any help would be fantastic.

visit a branch with the letter and some photo id and theylll tell you in 10 seconds what accounts are open and their balances.0
