in Cutting tax
Here's an article that was published yesterday. It's as subject that's been discussed on this forum before but it's worth noting if you think you need to claim tax relief on uniform laundry, professional and union subscriptions etc. as 3 years will become unclaimable by April, effectively reducing a lot of potential rebates by half.

"If you believe you are owed tax, then you need to get your skates on. HM Revenue & Customs is cutting the time allowed to reclaim overpaid tax by two years between now and April."

As you say it has been announced and discussed before, but rather disappointing is the information given.
Quickly looking at the article, under the picture, it states "Paid too much tax? You now have two years to reclaim it" which totally contradicts the main body of the article.
It also refers to ESC B14 which according to the article relates to " ESC B14 says that “repayments of tax will be made in respect of claims made outside the statutory limit where an overpayment of tax has arisen because of an error by HMRC or another Government department and where there is no dispute or doubt as to the facts.” ’"
however a quick look at HMRC shows ESCB14 relates to
"B14. Capital allowances on replacement of motor cars"

any idea which concession the article should be referring to?

Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0 -

When you look at it, yes it's poor. However the main point is there and I think in general it's something that has not received a lot of publicity. Anyone who hasn't claimed tax relief on their employment expenses for these three years is going to lose it altogether unless they claim by April, which could be a big amount for some people. I this case claiming HMR&C's concession wouldn't be of any use because it's the taxpayer's error.0
