Hello,
This is my first post and would like to say what a great forum this is, and a happy new year to everyone.
I am looking for some advice, my father in law passed away on the 5th of December 2011 (we are currently battling to get money from his bank the HSBC 'whole other issue').
My mother in law has worked out the she has to pay out 310 pounds a month and recieves 309 pounds a month, and this is without any food or petrol.
Surley this cannot be right, i have advised her that she should go visit the CAB.
Does anyone know of similar cases, and is there any help out there?
And any other advice would be good to.
Regards & Happy new year!!!!!

What is the money that she gets - wages or benefits?Pay off all my debts before Christmas 2015 #165.0

She does not work, her income is split between state pension and personal pension. I think she gets a reduction in her Council Tax and only pays 85% now, but that it.

If you look at http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_calculator.aspx they have a benefit calculator. Put your MIL details into it to see if she is entitled to any other benefits.
Did you FIL have life insurance?Pay off all my debts before Christmas 2015 #165.0 -

Sorry to hear of the death.
Your Mother-in-law needs to make a claim for Pension Credit (0800 99 1234) this can be backdated 3 months (1 month to appeal decision). If she is of poor health and aged over 65 she can make a claim for Attendance Allowance and if under 65 then she may be entitled to DLA depending on her care and mobility needs. Did the Father-in-law have a pension that she may be entitled to? Your Mother-in-law may also be entitled to CTB and HB (subject to status).
Use the pension tracing service to find out - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Pensionsandretirementplanning/Companyandpersonalpensions/DG_10027189
To try and find out if there might have been any insurance policies etc… use the unclaimed asset register https://www.uar.co.uk/0 -
