Can anyone shed some light on when planning permission is required I am going to be removing part of a load bearing wall and was wondering if it would be needed for this

You need planning permission to change the use or appearance of a building. You need approval from your local authority's building control department to change any of the structure of the building. In some cases you will need both. In some cases competent person self certification schemes exist (electrical works, window replacement, etc.)
Removing a load bearing wall is a change to the structure of the building. You will need building control approval. Will the work change the appearance or use of the building?0 -
as advised previously the work seems to be concerning building regs rather than planning. However if the building is listed, listed building consent would (depending on listing category) probably be required. Planning permission primarily deals with the external appearance of the property and the impact of development on neighbouring properties and general amenity of the area. Building standards deals with the structural/safety aspects.
Advice based on scottish regs, differences may apply in england/wales.0 -
usually a normal house only requires BC regs. safety is the big factor, they dont want walls collapsing on peeps!
PP is rarely needed for internal work. apart from listed buidings etc...Get some gorm.0
