Royal Bank of Scotland Direct Saver interest bonus

Last October when I opened a NatWest e-saver with 1.85% bonus, I also opened a RBS Direct Saver with a 1.35% bonus for 12 months. Like with my NatWest e-saver, I received a letter last month extending the bonus till February 2012. Unlike the NatWest equivalent, interest is paid annually. Last week, I closed my RBS account. A few days ago my external current account was credited with the closing interest from this account. On checking, it became apparent that the bonus interest was not included in this payment (we are talking of £500+). I have a screen shot of the original terms and also the extension letter. I have complained to their customer care team who are currently looking into it. The representative indicated that their initial findings said that since I have closed my account, I do not qualify for the bonus interest. Nowhere does it say this on the screenshot, extension letter or Important Information booklet. If I cannot get this resolved quickly through their Customer Care Team, I would like some advice how best to proceed. Thank you.

They have 8 weeks to respond to a complaint. Most banks will usually resolve issues much faster than this though.
If, within that time, they issue you with a letter of deadlock you can then pursue your complaint via the FOS.
If no such letter of deadlock arrives you can go to the FOS after 8 weeks if you are still dissatisfied.0 -
As I said, none of their literature mentions this bonus forfeit. I cannot see any way that they can be right? Has anyone else had experience with the bonus on this account? As NatWest and RBS share a lot of resources and we know how 'reliable' NatWest have been with their e-Saver, I fear that this may take a while.0
