Hi all,

I want to have a gardener to maintain my folks lawn. What's the going rate?

My folks live in Leicester.

Thanx

Yeah..whatever
• I pay £7 to have my lawn cut, it is a large lawn.
Do my own weeding.
Sometime the guy is in my garden for 90mins. other times less than an hour.

Gone are the days when neighbours used to help out the older people.
Wonder if those days will ever come back.

Well, in Leicester, the going rate seems to be around £15 / hour.

• My 'rule of thumb' for these jobs is - how much do I get paid an hour? Do I want to do the job myself? What is it worth to me NOT to have to do it myself?

Questions to ask them:
Is the gardener providing their own equipment?
Do they take the rubbish away and dispose of it properly?
Does the rate vary according to whether it is light or heavy work?
Have they got some references or recommendations from other customers?
Have they got insurance?

My partner has done gardening work and says £10 - £15 depending on the type of work is usual.
It may be worth asking at a local garden centre as they may have some contacts.

Hello AMO

Your thread will be better placed in the 'Greenfingered' board, so I'll move it across.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

Well, I pay to have the gardener take care of all gardening work to make sure its presentable. This primarily means mowing the lawn and weeding and trimming the hedges.

He brings his own tools but uses my garden waste bin.

No matter what he's doing, his labour rate is £15 / hour.

He says his rate is because he works very fast.

There are others that will just mow the lawn for £20 every 2 weeks - bit of a rip off as they don't weed the garden.

I use the gardener because they are three times faster than I am at doing the work - this is more because I am slow and don't have the patience! ;)

• Do you mean a 'plants person' or a 'maintenance person'? Expect to pay £10 - £15 per hour for the latter but a lot more for the former!!
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
