Help - Washing Machine Door Stuck

Help, please. The washing machine door won't open. It has a load in which is washed, which includes my son's brand new rugby shirt. Could anyone give me any help/tips on what to do to open it. I've tried moving the dial round, putting it on another quick wash to see if that would clear it, and switching it off at the mains.

Many thanks

Don't have the answer Mardrew, but would suggest you post your question on the "in your home" board. There are many skilled tradesmen on there who'll be able to help.

    Hiya,

I'll move you across to In My House.

    Good luck.

  • Hi, the only thing I can think of is that either the catch has jammed - for which I unfortunately have no answer, or that for some reason although it seems the wash has finished there may be a fault meaning that water is still in the drum thus preventing the door from opening as a safety measure.

Therefore the only thing I can suggest (through experience!) is to carefully open the filter at the front of your machine (if there is one?) and be ready with pots, pans, trays, mops, towels etc to catch what may be a lot of water.

If lots of water does come out then afterwards you should be able to open the door with any luck ;)

But it deffo sounds like you have a fault somewhere :(

I presume you have tried to put the machine on a drain programme?

If you haven't got a filter then I don't know what else to suggest I'm afraid.

    Good Luck! :D

I recently had the same problem with my Hotpoint. By using brute i accidently broke the plastic latch from inside, luckily i got a replacement latch and replaced the inner latch and spring. At the moment it seems to be opening/closing okay.

Not sure exactly what the problem was but it seems it had soemthing to do with the latch inside the door and/or the spring inside the latch.

Would just add to gertybertyangel's response..

If you have an integrated washing machine the filter/drain can (very helpfully) be hidden behind the 'kickboard' of your fitted kitchen. And if it's like mine, the kickboard was both glued and screwed on very firmly indeed!

The door may not be opening because the machine is not draining and still has (or thinks it has) some water in it. It may be worth taking a look outside, where the machine drains, to see if there are any obvious blockages there, and also take a look at the drainage pipe from the back of the machine to see if there are any obvious problems there.

It may also only be possible to over-ride the door control if you have turned the machine off at the mains.

Again, if you have an integrated machine, this may not be as easy as one would anticipate. The mains socket for my own machine, and also the waste water draining are behind my integrated oven. (I find it better not to dwell on the logic or safety of this!)

If you manage to get the door open, it would be worth immediately running the machine empty on a very hot wash with a bit dollup of washing soda.

In dealing with a similar problem, the handle for washing machine came off in my hand. Can report that a washing machine can be successfully opened for several years with aid of a carving knife whilst balancing the decision between spending an inordinate amount of money on a small piece of plastic versus or just replacing a 10 year old machine - question finally (as I say, some years later) solved by completely unrelated fault.)

    Which model do you have?
I have a Melie, there is a pvc cord within the filter door at the bottom of the machine, flip open the mini door and pull the cord to open the machine
Had other machines in the past that do not have this facility, hope the infomatrion helps
