Newbie - Can I easily get the costs of elec and gas per unit to compare with?

Ok probably a newbie question.
Moving into a new house, so I don't have any history of bills.
All I can see are calaulators for swapping providers, but for new sign-ups can I find the costs of the elec and gas for unit?

i.e. if buying a petrol, you can see the prices at different stations and choose accordingly.

Cheers

It is like getting blood out of a stone.
here is a guide 2 ferrets equate to one chicken before 7 pm, after 7pm you get a whole chicken plus a bag of bones for the stock, you then convert your chickens in to sacks of grain at this seasons lock grain tariff, however you must pay up front by direct debit for the grain surcharge, if you attempt to find out how much the chicken is worth they will throw you off the grain converter double economy tariff but not of the single grain rate providing you pay a surcharge for the first chicken.
    Understand ?
nope, well this is the exact formula most use, just with utilities.

  • Hmm does sound dodgy.
If they can measure the amount of Gas/Elec you are using, then surely then should have to tell you what they are charging per unit, even if it it different at different times of the day.
The new house owning is 'interesting'..

    vax2002 has summarised it nicely.
The best you can do is use one of the comparison sites and get deals for a typical user in property your sort of size.
I'd avoid locking into a long term deal, then build up some history - you really need a full year to cover all seasons - and then look at switching with some actual usage figures.
It's not just a case of how much they charge per unit, but there could be a daily standing charge OR the first x units you use are charged at a higher rate to effectively give you a standing charge. Then there's the various discounts they may apply, according to the tides, day of the week you were born and various other criteria.

Quite annoying, you can't compare in the same way you compare when getting a mobile
