Quickquid help

Could anyone help with this one. My dad had a letter off quick quid today claiming he's behind on loan payments - except he's never had a pay day loan in his life.
So he contacted them on online chat thing but they wanted personal details from him before they'd do anything which he wouldn't provide because why should he give them any details. They won't without this give him any copies of any alleged loan agreements etc. He's checked online banking and has had no payments into his bank account etc.
What should he do next - obviously everything needs to be in writing. Surely they have to prove he has a loan (which they can't) rather than the other way round.
Hopefully he's getting some legal advice tomorrow.

Your dad is telling the truth? I.e. has he definitely not had a loan from this company?
Could someone have stolen his identity?Getting married to a wonderful lady on August 10, 2012.
Need to save up, lose weight, reduce my money worries and get back to being the real me! :j0 -
Am interested to see this thread as my husband has had one of these letters today - however we know there is an issue atm with his identity being stolen... this has come to light last month after he received documentation in the post for a Tesco's saving account which he knew nothing about. On checking his credit record there was also a credit check from an online loan company (which had been refused). However it would seem whoever is using his identity to try and obtain credit has now succeeded in borrowing £112 from QuickQuid.
I'm not happy about how the company are responding to this fraud as when my husband phoned them to report that this loan was fraudulent, he asked to be put through to their fraud department and what he was put through to was an answerphone message saying they would get back to him within 5 business days! So we can't even actually report the fraud to them until they deign to call us back!! There is no record of them doing a credit check on him before approving this loan but from reading Martin's blog on here, I see that it's fairly common practice with these payday loan companies to not do credit checks.
I've also been trying to find out - both by phone and online - who these payday loan companies are regulated by and the answer seems impossible to find! I've spoken to the FSA, who told me I needed to speak to OFT, who said they can't advise on legislation and told me to call Action Fraud, who told me the company who has been defrauded needs to report the fraud, not the individual whose identity has been stolen, and that they are not legally trained and I would need to speak to Consumer Direct, who told me these companies are not subject to the Consumer Credit Act so they can't help and suggested I try the Financial Ombudsman Service!!0 -

No definitely not - my parents are of the generation where if you don't have it you don't spend it.
He's been on the phone to the bank to check there is no unusual activity on his account and there hasn't - just in case there is any evidence of identity fraud. I can't believe that he's been the victim of ID fraud, mum and dad shred absolutely everything that they get rid of and keep all other docs secure so unless they have had their post intercepted somehow...
Their internet connection is secure etc dad is a whizz at IT.
Have sent my dad a link to how to check your credit rating on the main site as I think he needs to do this. What else can you do to check whether or not you are the victim of ID fraud?
My dad has been contacting quick quid by email idtheft@quickquid.co.uk
So try that alipeeps - and see if it works for you. He is also going to try to contact action fraud. Which legal helpline were useless about this so don't bother trying them in case you were considering it. Think parents might be reconsidering Which subscription after this. It costs enough!!
Dad says his letter says £112 as well.
He emailed them the prove it letter and Quick quid have now sent him forms where they are asking for tons of personal details such as his signature - address - work address - work telephone number - internet ip address.
So I hope he isn't going to fill them in. I wouldn't anyway. Why should he give them information?! surely they have to prove that they have details which say that there is a loan. Won't this money have been paid into a bank account and that bank account surely can be traced and it definitely isn't my dads. He has replied saying that he'll happily co-operate with any fraud investigation but will only provide personal info to independent body such as police or designated financial investigative body.
Have sent my dad a link to this thread so he might update you himself if he decides to join.0 -
Best check your call credit file, as that is where they report to.
They have been known to place defaults on there for someone with the same name as you...
Could also be someone has taken out a loan fraudulently in your name.:beer:0 -
I've sent dad the details for that and he is going to do that.
Looks like this is going to be a right pain in the @rse0 -

Not necessarily. According to Martin's blog on this very website, one of the main concerns about the lack of regulation of the payday loan industry is the fact that they often don't run proper credit checks through the three credit reference agencies (CallCredit, Experian and Equifax).
My husband's Equifax file shows no record of them running a credit check and the three companies share information so if they'd run a check on CallCredit, it should show up on Equifax.0
