Hi folks, A collegue of mine has recently seperated from his wife. She told him that he is liable for half of her c/c debt when they get divorced. I disagreed but I'm not sure. Is this true

Is the card in her name? If so then it is her debt. If the card is in his name and she is a secondary name on the account then the debt is his alone. If this is the case make sure he cancels the card asap!0

Phoenix is right. Happened to me, but if she has a solicitor the solicitor may try and get him to pay half. My solicitor did, but we had already worked it out, he paid the loan I paid the CCPad, started 28.11.08 running total £3674.91:T

From the position of the credit card company Phoenix 79 is correct.
However, if the items purchased on the card are items for the mutual benefit of the couple and/or their home, then it can be argued as part of a divorce settlement that each should bear a proportion of the debt.0 -
Thanks folks, not as clear cut as you would think though:rolleyes:0
