London Marathon 2007 - Breaking MSRC News
London Marathon 2007 - Breaking News (01/02/07)
The Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC) has teamed up with SportsDo to provide their team of runners (TeamMSRC) for the Flora London Marathon the opportunity to take part in the first “live-tracking” at a major sporting event.
MSRC has been chosen by SportsDo, the company behind an innovative GPS sports tracking system, to offer its 120+ runners the technology which will enable those running for the charity to enjoy hi-tech training, monitoring and recording as well as tracking facilities on the day of the Marathon.
SportsDo enables athletes to monitor and record, via software installed on their mobile phone, their training schedules and to broadcast live tracking stats to friends and family via the SportsDo web portal.
It means that when runners go training they can record all the details of their run and then analyse it afterwards, looking at such information as distance, time, gradients, speed, pace and even the number of calories burnt.
It also allows runners to be tracked so that on the day of the London Marathon, friends and relatives of the MSRC runners can sit in front of their PC and monitor the progress of the person or persons they are interested in via a special events page on the SportsDo website.
Race spectators will be able to find out the exact location of their friends running in the race using SMS on their mobile phones. This will help them ensure they are standing in the best place to see and support the MSRC runners.
Jonathan Greensted, Chief Executive of SportsDo explained why the company chose MSRC. “One of our team ran for the MSRC in the 2006 Flora London Marathon and was very impressed with how well organised they were. When I met up with them I was similarly impressed by their enthusiasm and passion. I felt we were like-minded organisations. We wanted to launch our mass-tracking capabilities at an event such as the Flora London Marathon and we are very excited to be working with MSRC to make this a reality. SportsDo was launched last summer and the London Marathon is a major milestone in the platform’s development.”
