I think The Kitchen Garden is better, personally speaking.
  • If I may....I found GYO better for beginners, Kitchen garden better for more experienced or ambitious growers....

(find a fence, sit on it!!!)

mind you - which variety of carrots were they????

I love Grow Your Own. I'm not a beginner but not a novice either and it has brilliant ideas for what you can do at the weekend. It still teaches me loads of stuff I never knew and also gives you a good idea of what you could be planting now.

I ordered mine from W H Smith website, it was on for £1 a copy, I thought it was £1 for the first issue and after that would be at full price. I'm still getting it for £1 per copy 6 months later!
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

    F U Fund currently at £250

I like both of them, but I'm not going to look at the link for half price magazines, I darn't. Thanks for posting the think though.
  • I am a beginner too, and subscribed to GYO last year. I learnt loads and found its style very enthusiastic and it gave me loads of projects to do. regular seeds/freebies are also great!

I sometimes find KG assumes previous knowledge that I don't always have, which is why I said that I thought that it was better for more experienced growers.

How does the WHSmith magazine subscription work?
I'm trying to get one for GYO, its half price for six months, so £1.62. It says "add to basket", then it takes you to the checkout, but at no point does it tell how much are you actually paying for the whole subscription or if its in installments, direct debit or anything

Also, is there anywhere else I can get it cheaper (3 for £1 kind of thing)?

    Many thanks!
