Fake goods

Hello
I bought a scarf which has turned out not to be authentic and I paid via paypal - not an ebay item but a commerce site. They have requested I return it for a full refund. I know if I do so I am criminally liable. If I raise a SNAD for a fake item with paypal, what is the process? I'm trying to get emailed verification it's a fake (codes on the label and scarf don't match). What would you do?
Thanks

Paypal would want verification on headed paper to say that it's a fake, they only give you 10 days from opening a case to provide the proof. If you want to make a claim get the letter first.

I can't imagine that's going to be easy....replying to my email yes, but why would a company want to waste time writing to a non-customer about a fake scarf? Does this mean, for me to realistically get my money back I have to be complicit and send the goods back to the seller? If this was the only route do you send them back or raise some sort of paypal claim so its 'logged'?

Start a SNAD but do not state the item is fake. If you say it is fake they will expect you to prove it - if you leave it as a 'normal' SNAD they'll ask you to return it for a full refund, and give you a place to enter tracking information to prove delivery.

Depending on the scarf was supposed to be made by, some companies will provide proof its fake if you take it in store, while others will provide a letter to Ebay because it isn't in their interest to have fakes selling on there. Some won't help - it does depend who is involved.

They don't want people ripping off their designs.
Some will willingly write a letter, others can't be bothered, it really depends on who the company is.

I think the OP is saying they would rather not post back a fake.
