Oh dear! Finding my (ebay) feet! + BIN when item has bids??

I sold a couple of bits a few years ago but have been trying to have a mass clear out and get rid of things before the little one gets here, so decided to test the water and put 20 something items on at the weekend!

Sold 7 of them already (woo, obviously put my BIN too low, one pair of boots went within half an hour).

One ebayer has asked me if they can have a BIN on an item which already has bids on it though, I said I don't think within the rules I can do this as people have already bid and was sent this:
"thanks for getting back to me, there is a way around it which is within e bay rules and that is you tell me how much you want for them and then I place the bid and you sell to highest bidder, however if you prefer to let them run that is okay but just thought I would give you the info'. "
Does that sound dodgy? Hmm!!

Went to the postie today and realised I'd completely underestimated postage prices :( I based all my guestimations on the past couple of times I've returned things to online shops and had to foot the postage until they refunded, thinking that maybe my local used additional services. Pair of boots in box, lighter and smaller than the Hunters I sent back to amazon for £3.80ish cost me £5.80:eek: to send (1st class recorded, he said the only other way would be their standard parcels which take a week)!

All apart from two items cost me more to post, lesson learnt I guess - buy a set of scales! Now revised the postage on my listings that don't have bids but can't do anything about the ones that do.

Been a bit wary of eBay recently after a couple of bad transactions - one which was part not as described, part missing which took going through ebay as I stupidly thought they would enforce the Distance Seller Regulations (BIN best offer from a business seller), they didn't and I had to pay the return postage but didn't send them proof of postage and lost it so that was bye to £25 + my return postage :( Then I bought some jeans which were actually denim leggings, then something that didn't work properly (although last two actually resolved but still puts you off buying)! Then this morning I get a broken item, arg! Seller is sending a replacement though :)

If the buyer places a bid it will only go the amount you want if someone else has bid just under it.
If it already has bids & someone's asking for a BIN then I would just leave it to run.

I can't see what is dodgy about that. Lets say you are willing to add a BIN now price of 19.99 (if you indeed can, which I dont know once auction has started) then this guy bids at 19.99 and you would be happy no?
  • There is an ebay rule about ending auctions early and that is a valid manner of ending an auction early - namely, selling to the highest bidder before the end time of the auction. Look up how to end an auction early and you will see there is nothing "dodgy" about it at all - it is perfectly acceptable and valid.
  • There was a BIN on the item but that dissapears when the item is bid on.

How exactly would she get the price up to my BIN price for me to end it?
