buyer returned item that wasnt the one I sent

HI

I hope someone can help.
I sold an item through ebay for £155 an item of clothing, buyer opened a dispute in paypal saying it wasnt as described.
I told the buyer he could return for a refund but he still went and escaled through paypal.
Paypal asked him to add tracking which he did.
I then recieve an item back but its a total diffferent item. worth about £10.
Now paypal have refunded him.
I have emailed him and he has denied sending back the wrong item.

What can I do?
would the police do anything?

Thanks

telephone paypal and explain to them, hope you have pictures of what you sent the buyer and a photo of what they returned, so you can prove to paypal they have not returned the item you sent them.
  • PayPal will refund the buyer if he/she can show it as delivered, attempted or refused.

Your redress, if cost effective is with the small claims court.

Check the tracking on the return before you do anything.
  • Yes I have checked the tracking number.
I have emailed the buyer and he is now accussing me of sticking the labels on another bag.
  • Paypal have done nothing saying what I said means nothing.
  • would the police do anything?
  • As I said....if he has returned it you are stumped bar civil proceedings. Despite what has been said above....

    What does the tracking say...
  • Police may do, it could be obtaining goods by deception. If the buyer was in driving distance I'd take their £10 item back and exchange it for the right one.

Some sellers have taken to browsing Facebook to see pictures of buyers wearing items they claim didn't fit, etc, worth a go to back up an appeal to Paypal

Tracking just says delieved with my signiture
  • Well, you may try an appeal with PP but IMHE it won't work. They will refer you to the police who may or may not be interested. If you can persuade them to give you a crime number, you may have some clout with PP. Good luck, it's a dire buyer who deals like this.

Only problem I have is how do I prove they did send me the wrong item.

Does this happen a lot on ebay?
