Sneaky handling of OD & C.Card by nationwide

HI,
Firstly apologies if this is the wrong place for this question:
I was looking back at some old paperwork that I gathered as reasons for my partner and I claiming bankruptcy.
I came across something that I cannot believe we accepted:
At the time, we had a huge OD of £2k with Nationwide. Despite my high earnings, we were using it. We had cleared off a huge amount of outstanding debt on my Nationwide Credit Card.
Out of the blue, Nationwide said that they had to reduce our OD by £1,000.... When i rang up to explain that I needed a bit of time and to ask for some leeway, I was told that as I had some credit on my Nationwide Credit Card, I could put £1,000 back onto the Credit Card, thereby enabling us to reduce our OD by £1,000.
Otherwise, Nationwide told me that they would still reduce the OD and we would accrue a huge amount of charges on our current account.
So I accepted this as I felt I had no choice but I feel really peeved about it all now as surely that is very underhand of them.
Okay we had a huge OD that we were living in BUT we were managing it and never went over the OD so I wasn't sure why they suddenly decided to decrease it by £1,000.
Any advice would be very gratefully received.
Thanks Lisa
