Ouch.

About 1.5 miles into my run this morning and there were two loud pops from my right calf (could be heard over my Ipod). Had to hobble home - so cold. Phoned ex- wife to ask for a lift to the hospital where she works, but as I can actually stand she told me to rest today( she is a hard woman). Any idea what I`ve done and how long it lasts?

Medical advice is banned on this site, but as a first aid thing for sports injuries, apply the RICE rule.

R = Rest rest the injured area to stop further damage and bleeding.

I = Ice should be applied as soon as possible as it slows down blood circulation which reduces bleeding and swelling. Do not apply ice direct to the tissue/skin, wrap it in a towel or cloth so the skin does not burn. Ice also has an analgesic effect.

C = Compression should be applied to the area as soon as possible to restrict bleeding at the injury. Pressure compresses blood vessels so preventing blood escaping through open ends of the torn fibres. Do not apply compression around a whole limb as it will starve other areas of blood.

E = Elevation allows gravity to assist the removal of swelling from the injured area and aids recovery.

Get to a Dr. or casualty ASAP though, if it is serious, treatment started sooner rather than later is key to quick recovery.

Taxi maybe??? Could save you money & time in the long run (Excuse the pun!)
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    Hello suffolkb

Asking for (or giving) medical advice isn't allowed I'm afraid. Several members could respond with differing opinions of what they think you've done.............and none would be safe opinions.;)

You should see your GP to get a safe medical opinion/diagnosis.............and then you will begin to make a recovery from your injury.

    Regards

Thanks toothsmith. Ex works in theatres and used to be a casualty nurse. When she saw me walk to the car she told me that casualty would just give me the advice that you did, so I`ll just rest up and see.

Throbs a bit still, but I can walk pretty well. Stairs are a problem though. I needed the loo in the night and just jumped out of bed. Not wise.
