wow thats a long way off, alot longer than i would of expected, did you get the date yourself by phoning th court ?? or is someone sorting you br out for you.0
-
There is a local charity that is helping me and they called the courts directly. He was a little shocked as its usually around 2 weeks.
I guess I'll have plenty of time to get things into order but in the mean time need to sort something out with creditors...0 -
don't worry....what with staff cuts, staff holidays, Christmas/New year....[and the same applies to Judges].....that sounds about right...8-12 weeks was the time I waited....
Once you have made your decision, then you are safe in the knowledge that you can ignore creditors...apart from those who are important to house and home.
The rest can go fiddle!
If your BR date is that far off, rest assured, any Court dates attempted by any creditors [for a judgement] will be even further off!
It is entirely possible that your Court may contact you earlier if they have a cancellation...No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Also check with your court every week or 2 to see if they can fit you in earlier if someone cancels.
An interesting thing is also that I've been told by some knowledgeable court staff, that a while ago all courts were given instructions that they were not to turn away people who just turn up on a particular day with the paperwork and fees. i.e. they have to fit them in.
Whether that is true, and if so how widely courts are sticking to that isn't something I can answer though.....Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I've been advised to offer a token gesture in the meantime, rather than just nothing which I'm happy to do.
Just want it all over with now, was hoping would be resolved in time for Christmas but hey ho!!0 -
I wouldn't bother paying them anything unless you think token payments will stop them sending letters, it probably won't unless you've been through the process of gaining their agreements to the token payments. If you go down that route it could take until February before they've all agreed! When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

I think the thinking is that at least I've made an effort and not ignoring them... I don't really care at the moment if they accept them or not, just wondering if it's gonna be less unpleasant than 4 months of hounding - although I am not so naive to think that they wont be hounding me anyhow!!
At the moment I have made all my payments on time, but in doing this my credit cards have been going up, only now they are cut up so not an option any more, and I can't cut back any more0 -
Like I said, just suddenly reducing your payments to token amounts won't stop them sending you chasing letters. It takes time to set up an agreement with all creditors for token payments, in the meantime they'll chase you anyway.
Why make any effort when you know you're going BR anyway and it won't make any difference to the 'hounding'?
The first couple of months will just be standard letters. Then you could send a letter to each of them stating you are in the process of taking advice from the CAB (or other) and will be in touch as soon as you are able. That might slow some of the letters down a bit. After that you won't care what they send you because you'll be BR before they can take any action.
Personally, I wouldn't waste my money.
As soon as I had my Court date I stopped paying all my creditors my DMP payments, think the gap was about 6 weeks and only just started receiving letters just before BR.When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

I'm just really concerned as my date is 4 months away, and I live on my own with my daughter and I'm worried about people coming knocking the door!!! If it was weeks I wouldn't be so concerned.
I don't have any assets except for my car which is clear and paid for so I have nothing to give them, but will it stop them trying???0 -
You might want to write to them and ask for contact in writing only. otherwise you might get a lot of phone calls. I did this as I was getting calls at work which was embarassing. You can also turn your home phone ringer off. there is a template letter for doing this on here somewhere.
I hated the calls more than anything so it was worth doing.0
