"Sold As Seen" & Paypal Disputes

Thinking of having a bid on this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250074531246&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015
The seller is obviously one of ebays less thorough listers and I imagine it's going to sell for considerably under market value.
Have emailed him and he hasn't bothered to reply - but his feedback is OK and he has other G5's on auction at the moment where he has pointed out major flaws i.e cracked casings and mising hard drives.
Wondering if I would win a paypal dispute for item not as described if it doesn't actually work!
He has described condition as "good" but adds "There is no guarantee and no return on this item; it is absolutely sold as seen.".
Wondering if this phrase actually has any standing in a paypal dispute don't have a Credit Card at the mo so would be purely relying on paypal if I get sent a dud computer.
Have bought from similar "lazy" sellers in the past and have had a result each time but as this is likely to end up selling for around the £700 mark (twice that being the market rate for a well listed Quad) so wondering if I should risk it and if so where I would stand if I get stung.

Buying anything 'used' on ebay is problematic as paypal could jump either way in a dispute. The words 'sold as seen' are meaningless because you can;t see it, but then the fact you are buying an obviously used item, with no guarantee that it works and with what looks like a stock photo rather suggests you are taking a gamble. I think paypal would take some convincing that a buyer has any claim if goods turn out to be faulty.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Macs are allways a good buy, they hold there price very well.
But wouldnt touch this seller with a barge pole, he makes it clear from the start he want no contact with the buyer. Heavaly damaged case along bottom, would indicate it has been dropped from a height, so motherboard could be damaged or any other part for that.
plus if you paid £500 for this dont forget his 17.5 vat which will be added at end so 587.50
If it has a missing hard, you would have to buy a new one (ok price not too bad) but also you will need to buy mac operating system (not cheap).
So in all fairness you would be better of going to a retailer or even the apple shop, and seeing if they have any refurbished macs in.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

He doesn't actually state that the case is cracked or drive missing in this auction for the Quad.
It's other G5 auctions where he has mentioned this.
He has now replied to an email and states that machine is tested and working and describes it as an "ex repair machine" which I'm assuming means a refurb??
Had a look around at refurbs fomr retailers and the cheapest I can see is for the G5 with the spec underneath this at £1200 so must admit I'm a little tempted by this auction.0 -
At end of day if your happy to spend money on a second hand comp with no quarantee, especially seeing as his last G5 went for 735 making it 900.
At least with refurb you should get some form of guarantee plus you will get to see it working before you buy.
What happens when the one from ebay arrives and does not work, what do you do thenMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0
