My Lawnflite brushcutter died, seized up, and needed a new cylinder and piston. 25cc two stroke not Ferrari. Cost quoted £188.00 plus vat. Rip off or what? Needless to say I changed make. New Honda cost £249. incl vat and delivery.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

We are in a disposable society these days. We used to repair videos, TVs etc. Now they are so cheap that even the simplest of spare parts costs more than a replacement. I remember fixing an iron many years ago, nowadays you can pick one up for a tenner.
And the worst offender is mobile phones. I know of people with dozens (literally) unused mobiles because they keep changing things.
Another one is inkjet printers for a computer. My latest one cost me £65 (on offer of course) - a new set of 6 original print cartridges will cost me about £72. Why would I replace the cartiridges when I can throw the printer in the bin and get a new one. Now I know why I have 5 printers and 3 scanners in my house.
