thank you all for the replies, no claire he has not had glandular fever, my nephew had that and it took him 18 months to remotely get back to normal like you say so I know how bad that can be.
No he has not got ME, have a friend who has and it is not like my son's constant unwell days....
My son went to school today because many reasons really
a) I have to go to work
b) He is not well I know but have done what OP have said and leave it to the school to send him back home if it is that bad and they have not
c) Concerned for his attendance, whether he will suffer in his education in the future for his health now
d)Made another appointment with the doc for the end of the week to give him an overall and see if the blood tests, weeing in a bottle all those kind of tests come up with anything that could lead us to finding out why it is happening so very often
e) I went to boots and bought the multi vitamins the OP said to buy
f) It is definetly not bullying, unhappy at school or anything like that as he also gets frustrated that he has to sit here another day due to ill health and wait for it to pass so that he can go back and get in amongst with his friends.
My H and I find it worrying but also mildy frustrating as it happens recently often and regularly and i am the one that takes the day off work....
I am hoping for a solution once all the above is covered, many thanks to all of you for your great ideas about what to do, thank you xxx0 -
Try not to worry about the absences. My DS had a brain tumour when he was 8 and missed a lot of school - 4 months in the year it happened and then quite a lot of days/weeks here and there for at least 3 years afterwards. The radiotherapy !!!!!!ed up his immune system for a good while so he caught every bug going and it took longer for him to shake them off. His attendance over the three years following his illness was roundabout 80%.
He's 19 and absolutely fine now. He's at music college training to be a rock star lol!
We used to get letters from the school about his attendance but when I rang they just used to say 'Yes, we know why but we have to send them' One or two of his teachers used to be a little cynical until I pointed out that I was having to use my annual leave to stay at home with him and if I could have sent him to school I would. I soon put a stop to that attitude - politely but firmly!
I hope you get it sorted and it's nothing serious. And don't worry about school - as we found out you can catch up and re-take exams if necessary. It's not a race.0 -
My son is 13. At the end of his last school year (actually most of it) He was very much like your son is. He was lethargic, just generally grotty, infection after infection. I took him to the doctors once when it started and a few months later. The 2nd time that I took him she said his glands were swollen again, suspects glandular fever and did a blood test. The test came back negative (apparently it often does even if you have/had it), but she had advised rest. I made him have 1-2 weeks off school, he rested and rested some more!! Since then he is much better, still has the odd day where he feels poop, but I think we all do.
He has just got great grades in his practice sats and he is much happier.
Maybe during half term let him sleep and rest all he can.0 -
my son went through a bad patch when he started high school. he was off for a at least a week every month for months. he had hardly been ill in his life before. he did go to a little primary school and then moved on to huge secondary in the next town. it was just one thing after another. at the time though there was such a huge flu outbreak at the school they actually suspended lessons. so I think there were a lot of kids in the same situation. when he had the flu he literally couldnt get out of bed for the first week. I have to confess I did send him school with the rash he developed a few weeks later only to find out what he had was very contagiousx x x0
