Hello all, I have started down the road of reclaiming my bank charges that I have accrued over the years.
I have gone down the hardship route due to illness last year which meant I couldn't work for about 6 months, and recieved only statutory sick pay. It has been a long struggle to get back on top of things, paying back money that I borrowed while keeping up with mortgage payments and day to day bills etc and I have slipped up a few times along the way picking up these charges. During this time Nationwide also decided to take away my overdraft therefore I was having to find another £100 per month to pay this off - following another slip up they have now completely removed the overdraft, luckily I have family who were able to help me pay off the overdraft and start again with a £0 balance.
Why post here then? Basically I have had replies from both Nationwide and Santander and am a little lost as where to go now.
Nationwide: The letter from the Nationwide manager was actually very pleasant, they refunded £45 of charges that I had accrued that month but cuoldn't go further than that - the bank manager informed me by letter that my case has been forwarded onto the Head Office Refund of Charges Team for consideration and that I should hear back in 2 weeks (this was 3rd Oct). What should I do now? Wait a little longer? Contact Nationwide Head Office?
Santander: They can refund one charge per 12months at branch level - I therefore got £25 back. There letter closes with if I am not happy with this I can contact "Stage 2 complaints team". Should I resend the letter to these guys or is it time to contact the FOS?
Thanks for your time!
