Suspicious: Santander eSaver

I applied for a new eSaver account with Santander in the last month. They sent me the details of the account by email and then after trying to login with the account number, it kept erroring.
So after waiting a week they sent me out TWO letters with UserNames in them to which I enquired about at the local branch. The guy in branch told me "someone had just been fat fingered and issued the number twice. Just use the last one and it will be fine. BTW, you haven't signed up for online banking so you wont be able to login." Firstly, this is !!!!!!! How can you apply for an Electronic account and not be given electronic access??
So after waiting another week I got the online details yesterday. On logging into the account (this is not a simple process Santander!!) I am alarmed to see another account linked. So I have an eSaver account with a balance of zero; and a Savings account with a balance.
I am 99% sure I do not and have never owned a Santander account - this is someone else's money! Any ideas what I should do next? Should I close my account and run far away from Santander? Or should I notify them of the error and hope they don't balls my own account up?

Hmmm, my eSavers with Santader are all linked in to my current account. I was never given different details to access them?0
-
Yes but I dont have a current account. The only account I have is the eSaver. As a new customer you should be allocated Account, Sort, Username and Password.0

Ah I see, sorry, I didn't realise!0

To answer your question though, I would just give them a call to let them know and see if they can resolve this for you and see where the money's come from.0

Is it a significant balance? It could well be an old A+L, Abbey, B+B account that you've forgotten about? They were all amalgamated in the last couple of years.
I'd write a letter to the CEO's office (by e-mail to, apparently, ceo@santander.co.uk, or post to

Note the issue, explain the incompetence you've already experienced, and somebody from their head office complaints liason team will pick it up and crack the whip.
Only way to deal with banks/telcos/energy companies when you have an issue, tbh.I am an IFA, but nothing I say on this forum constitutes financial advice. Always draw your own conclusions and always do your own research.0 -
Is it a significant balance?
That's the thing. It's only about £14.52 - the 2pence being from interest calculated on the 3rd October 2011. There is no other account history before that to explain the remaining £14.50.
Obviously if it was a balance of £6million I'd be typing this from Neckar Island0 -
Ah. £14.52? I think it's mine. Wondered where that was. Will pm my address to you :beer:0

I too have recently opened a Santander eSaver account. Everything went smoothly and having received all the log-in details and passwords was up and running within a week. Well done Santander (how often do you hear that?).
I was also surprised to see an Instant Saver account on-line in addition to the e-Saver. The Instant Saver contained the grand sum of £1.31! I couldn't transfer this into my eSaver as it was classified as a dormant account and was asked to call into a local branch with some ID to get this reactivated.
The staff at my local branch were most helpful - they advised that this e-Saver was previously a passbook account but could not identify from where. I've never had an account with Santander before but think that this may have come from an old Bradford & Bingley account.
I closed this account down in the branch and took my £1.31!0 -
The interesting thing is how they are able to associate the two accounts with each other? Are they using the same home address to tie the two?0

I would think that could be the only link for a "dormant" account unless you have quoted a common associated bank account from which you will service the new e saver."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
