Orange/ NPower failing to refund expired account credit

Hi all,

Apologies if I haven't posted in the most appropriate group, but hopefully someone in here will be able to give me some advice on an issue I'm finding extremely frustrating!

In the last 6 months I have ended my mobile contract with Orange, and a boiler care contract with NPower. Both companies have debited money from my account shortly after my services have ended, effectively leaving my account in credit (which they both acknowledge). Despite this, however, I have not been able to get them to refund me the account credits. Neither company owes me a lot (approx. £18 from Orange and £32 from NPower), but getting this refunded is now becoming a matter of principle!

So far I have called Orange about this (which costed me nearly half the amount I'm owed by them) and have emailed their customer services about it; both times I have been assured I will receive my cheque within 7-10 working days. Similarly, I have spoken to NPower about the matter twice, and was assured that the money would be credited to my account within around 10 days. Neither company has fulfilled these obligations, and several months have now passed since I first contacted them about it.

Can anyone please tell me what my rights are in this situation? Both companies had no right to take the money I'm owed, and I'm finding the whole ordeal infuriating. To add insult to injury, I'm pretty sure I've been given a fake name on at least one occasion when asked who I'm dealing with in Orange customer services.

Although I had no issues with either company as a customer, this has really put me off ever returning to either!

What can I do to get them to refund me?

Many thanks,
