Some advice please about buyer returning item

Morning all, would appreciate if someone could advise me on the following:
I recently sold a 'region 1' dvd, it stated region 1 in info box/panel and also in my main description. Item sold and sent, I have now received a message from buyer saying it will not play on their player (they also say that they accept that they assumed it would) but are asking to return it. Their closing statement then says words to the affect of will leave +ve feedback when refund is recieved.

Am I obliged to accept the return? it was as described, they bid on 3rd day of a 7day listing, so wasn't like they didn't have time to read/check listing. If I refuse the return and they leave me bad feedback, would their closing statement be seen as feedback extortion?

Many thanks, Lx:)

No it wouldn't be seen as feedback extortion.

If you are a private seller you don't have to refund of course- but they do retain the right then to leave feedback.

Just one thought, you didn't use the ebay catalogue for listing at all did you? Ie you did start the listing from scratch with no prefilled information.

  • Thanks for your quick reply, Soolin. I did not use the ebay catalogue I listed from scratch, my picture and text. So if I decline their request to return and they do leave a -ve there will be nothing I can do other than reply to it? thankyou

I would think it unlikely that ebay would remove any feedback just because th ebuyer failed to read the description- although it is worth a try phoning them if they mention in the feedback anything that can be 'proved' as false.

I have recently had feedback removed where a statement in the feedback suggested the buyer did not read the listing.

  • Like Soolin, I recently had my first ever neutral feedback removed, whereby the comment left by the customer was incorrect (read that as lying!)
Just be calm and polite when emailing eBay to request its removal (should it get to the stage where you get left negative/neutral) and stick to the facts without getting personal. They can, of course, refer to email conversations you have had with your customer so continue communicating with him/her via eBay's messaging system so eBay can easily trace it. Personally, I wouldn't allow the item to be returned as it is the customer's responsibility to read before bidding, and as you said, they had 4 days after bidding to check and if need be retract their bid...
