Work history on CV - do you have to tell all?

I currently have 2 part-time jobs; have had the 1st one for over 7 years, the 2nd I have been in for around 18 months. I have recently had a few problems with a work colleague at the 2nd job, and its making for a bad atmosphere between us - too long a story to go into for now. I have tried to just get on with it, but it is getting me down to the point that I am now looking for another job elsewhere. Had a chat at home, and we have decided that if things don't improve, we could afford for me to give notice on this job, before I find anything else (1st job can offer me a few more hours in the meantime anyway), and 1st employer would give me a good reference should I need one in the future.
I was just wondering about the possible impact of leaving the job now, then having to tell any subsequent employer why I left so suddenly and without anything else to go to. Could I just not put any mention of the 2nd job on my CV at all, to avoid any awkward questions? My 1st job has been long-standing enough to count in my favour. I just don't want to have to admit that I left due to a poor relationship with my co-worker(s), which doesn't portray me very favourably to a prospective new employer? If I was leaving to go straight into another job, I could use the excuse that it was better pay/hours/more suitable work etc, but apparently walking away from my current job seems to suggest something odd went on.
Any advice please?

As you wouldn't have a gap in your employment history that needed to be explained, I'd just leave it off a CV.0

Do not leave it off your CV. It has given you good experience. I see no problem at all with just having 1 job for a period if as you say the first job could up your hours. Why can't you work your notice at the second job?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Thanks anamenotaken - thats along the lines of what I thought, but didn't know whether it would suddenly show up somewhere on a new employer's PAYE records or something, leading me to explain it!
We did similar a while back when my partner took a new job on a month's trial, and found it was totally unsuitable, so he left again. He'd been unemployed (redundant) for a few months at the time, so we just "forgot" to add it to his CV, and subsequent employer never knew. I just thought it was easy to "lose" his month back then, but 18 months or more of my work history seems a bit more difficult!
Whitewing - I will work my notice, just might not be going straight into a "new" 2nd job when I leave. The 1st job will only be 7'ish hours a week (2 mornings max), so I need something else eventually aswell. If I do decide to leave, will work my month out, but was hoping that I'd find something else to go to first, rather than leave and only have the 1st job to keep me going. Or even find 1 job that will provide enough hours to give up both the existing ones!0 -
they have 2 jobs so it wouldnt leave a gap if they gave up one of them.anamenottaken wrote: »As you wouldn't have a gap in your employment history that needed to be explained, I'd just leave it off a CV.0 -
If you are working your notice then I can't see any reason why you'd need to leave it off your CV. Surely better not to risk being found out that you have not told the truth. (Hubby's situation slightly different).:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. the job may have given them good experience but do they really want to risk a potential employer finding out what happened?Do not leave it off your CV. It has given you good experience. ultimately anything from your work history can be left off a cv. they just have to work out if doing so would have a bigger negative impact than leaving it on.0 -
the problem they may have is if a potential employer asks for a reference from that employer. If you are working your notice then I can't see any reason why you'd need to leave it off your CV. You dont have to worry about this, people leave jobs they dont like all the time. You could just say that you fancied a change/career development/wanted the time to study/felt you had developed fully in the role and wanted a new challenge etc.0

I think the word "as" at the beginning of my post indicated I understood that!0 -
Id put it on your cv. I dont see why it matters. 18 months is hardly leaving a job suddenly.
You dont need to tell them thats the reason why you left, just say some of the reasons Dandelion suggested.
Its better to keep it on, it shows you can work 2 jobs at once, so you are organised etc, and have been kept on by both employers.0
