morning in York
useless

I've got a couple of hours to kill in york on a monday morning.
Can anyone recommend any good galleries and shops in the centre?
also will be in york on the sunday evening - can anyone recommend a cheap cheap place to grab dinner, or just a snack, in the centre of town??
I'll be on my own so don't really fancy a proper restaurant/ unknown pub.
tips on where to find a food shop open after 4pm would be great too.
thanks

a food shop after 4 in the city centre - no chance!
places to eat there's all the chains in the centre, pizza hut, bella italia, cafe uno, cafe rouge, la tasca, slug and lettuce etc
not sure on galleries but shops wise got most main ones and the shambles is nice for a walk and unique shops plus might take longer as you can just stroll at your own pace and get lost!!!

Weatherspoons is as good a place as any to eat without breaking the
bank. There are a couple of these in York.
Go to aptly named Museum Street and enjoy a walk round the Museum(it's
free). As mentioned previously a walk around the Shambles and the Minster
should keep you occupied for at least a couple of hours.
Enjoy your stay.0 -
I wish I had read this thread earlier, I would have sent my daughter or one of her student mates to look after you.
Not stopped over a Sunday evening but there is a Jacksons at Bootham which sells food.
As for entertaiment there is an odeon on Blossom street just down from the station and another cinema in town which also has a cafe bar.
Two places I also have to plug are the White Horse at Bootham, bottom end of Gillygate and the HaHa bar, expensive but they do a great plate of proper stick chips and homemade looking fish fingers!.
One thing I've noticed in York is the disgusting toilets. I've been in the loos at Pizza Hut next to Marks and the loos at Ha Ha bar, both yuk
