Taking holidays left when leaving a company

I'm leaving the company I work for on 31st October but have 12.5 holidays left for the rest of the year (until 31st March). How many of these am I allowed to take before I leave? I know they won't pay me for them but don't know how many I'm entitled too.
Can't ask HR as there's only myself and the MD in today and certainly not asking him!
If anyone has the answer I'd be very grateful!
thanks

If you aren't allowed to take them, they have to pay them.
If they say their policy is that you have to take them as they won't pay them, then you are entitled to take them all - pro-rata-ed to the time you work until. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
They can require you to take outstanding holiday before you leave, or you can apply to.
How many days you have left depends on how many you started with!
If you have the statutory minimum of 28 days, then April to October is 7 months. 7/12 x 28 = 16.33 (that is what you have 'earned' so far this year). If you have 12.5 left that suggests you have taken 15.5 therefore only have one day left (or half a day, depending on whether you round up in halves or wholes).
Whatever happens, if you have any left when you leave they have to pay you for it.0 -
Thanks Jarndyce, I think that was the calculation I was looking for.
cheers

As others have stated the firm can decide between making you take the holiday or paying you for it after you leave.
However, if you have a clear preference it is worth having a chat with somebody in authority. If you would rather take the holiday and, effectively, leave sooner most companies will realise there is only so much value in making somebody work against their will.
Equally, if you would rather keep working and have some extra money I would have a list of things that need to be completed before you depart!0
