New hdtv - Looking to pay later?

Hi all

My old faithful CRT tv has died. It will be missed. I have to start looking for a new tv and I'm hoping to avoid shelling out this side of xmas by taking advantage of BNPL (6 months or more) offers, obviously paying in full before the BNPL expires.

I know Littlewoods and Argos can both provide what I need, are there any others that could widen my choices?

Thanks

I bought a new Panasonic LCD on upto 12 months free credit last month from the 'Panasonic' store in Doncaster. You could see if they are still doing the offer at a Pansonic store near you.
  • There's one in the next town - I'll check it out, thanks very much :)

Better to use an interest free credit card at the retailer of your choice-I'd start with Richer Sounds.

Interest free from retailers is 90% of the time a con as the interest is just hidden in fees or inflated prices for the goods.

The interest free credit card is the best option as it also allows you to use any store to buy it from.

..........or John Lewis - 5 yr guarantee on their TVs (as Richer Sounds I believe)

RS 5 year warranty is optional (but it's a very good value one at a straight 10% of the purchase price).

  • Thanks for all your advice so far!

I tried to apply for a Tesco card today and got declined. It was a bit of a surprise as I have a very steady job and a good credit history, I will have to wait for their follow up letter to find out exactly why I was rejected.

Worst case scenario is paying up front for a new tv. Not ideal but not the end of the world either. There's some real bargains on Richer Sounds, thanks for the pointer - I don't need any bells and whistles either :)

It's unlikely that they will give you any reason for rejection, suggest you have a look at your Experian record.

  • I looked on Equifax and it was all green - one missed payment on my barclaycard back in January 2008 was the only bump and I've been on direct debit with them ever since.

Does experian just give more of the same info?

Credit is much harder to come by in the last 18m or so, even one little blemish will potentially score you down. Or you may simply not have the income (in the judgement of the card issuer) to justify further credit facilities.
Experian should give the same info.
